Da Iawn Steakhouse, Cardiff – Review #AD

Da Iawn Steakhouse review (20/03/22)

Last night my husband and I had a well deserved date night. Its not often we have time as a couple these days, with busy schedules and growing boys to take care of, it seems that our free time is usually spent getting some rest.

With busy lives and commitments, I do feel it’s important to spend quality time with your partner when you can, you are after all a couple, not just mum and dad.

Richards birthday is fast approaching so we decided to go to a steakhouse. Getting a little bored of Miller and Carter, I found Da Iawn Steak House, an independent restaurant owned by husband and wife team Maria and Cornel Chiriac.

After the success of their first restaurant, Sushi Life, Maria and Cornel Chiriac decided to open Da Iawn Steak House.

Da Iawn has only been open a couple of weeks and already I could see that it’s a firm favorite in the community. With friendly, welcoming staff, you will feel at home as soon as you enter the establishment.

With only a small menu, you can be assured that all the food is freshly prepared and although the focus is on steak, there are plenty of other options.

The menu comprises of T.bone, sirloin, ribeye and fillet steak. For those who don’t like beef, there is whole boneless chicken leg, lamb neck fillet, grilled salmon, grilled tiger prawns and pork shoulder.

All meals include hand cut chips or mashed potatoes, fresh salads and/or roasted vegetables.

Steaks are cooked to your liking and there was even an option to have a blue steak, something I don’t see often.

To start Richard ordered lightly battered calamari served with tartare sauce and rocket leaves.

For main, I had grilled salmon fillet served with new potatoes, tender stem broccoli and fresh salad. The kitchen was happy to prepare this dairy free.

The salmon was sensational, grilled to perfection with cooked al dente vegetables, just how I like them.

Richard ordered the 21oz T. bone, cooked med-rare, served with chips and peppercorn sauce. The T.bone was quite simply mouth watering, cooked as requested and the homemade peppercorn sauce complemented the meal exquisitely.

To say we were extremely satisfied would be an understatement. We both agreed that Da Iawn topped our usual steakhouse.

So if you are looking for a friendly, locally sourced steakhouse, I highly recommend Da Iawn Steakhouse.
