Meet the Welsh Bloggers 2019 – Millennial Mother

Welsh mother and daughter sat on a bench

This year Welsh Mummy Blogs is interviewing Welsh bloggers.

With so many high profile bloggers out there, we may forget some of the amazing Welsh bloggers who are closer to home.

My first interview is with Kelly who writes the Millennial Mother.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Kelly and I live in Cardiff with my husband and daughter Nancy. Nancy is three years old and a bundle of joy. I work full time at a local University so I am often running for the bus, doing housework at 10pm on a Friday night and carrying a coffee cup. I love yoga and try and squeeze in at least two practices a week. I also love keeping fit generally as it helps not only my physical but my mental wellbeing. My other hobby is coffee drinking. If I had to choose my final meal it would be an oat milk latte! I also love exploring with my family, getting outdoors and gardening.

What is your blog about?

My blog is mix of honest motherhood, lifestyle and food. I can’t say I have a particular theme because I cover what I fancy. I like to write organically and support local businesses when the opportunity arises. I have covered my battle with postnatal depression, my favourite date nights, spots and family days out. What I will say about my blog is that it is truthful.

What/who inspired you to start a blog?

I think it was more the lack of blogs that related specifically to me. I am a millennial, I am a mum but I felt like I didn’t fit into a particular category. I felt very isolated and lonely during my pregnancy and after and starting my blog was a chance for me to connect with other mums and to write about how I was feeling. I also love exploring and I wanted to cover my favourite places. I make a conscious effort to visit independent businesses so I really like the fact I can give them extra support.

What challenges have you faced whilst blogging?

I find it difficult to cope with the popularity contest. I am not the biggest mum blogger and I do not have the time or resources to be one. But that can often make me feel a bit inadequate. I also find it so difficult to juggle with my job. I haven’t had the chance to properly sit down and carry out market research or find ways to grow my blog. I have had create an e-marketing email on my to do list for 3 months, but when I send about 3 email marketing campaigns a week for my day job it is the last thing I want to do on a Saturday night. I also find the negative comments can be hard, the ‘she is only doing it because it is ‘Instragrammble’ can really be hard to hear.

What are your 2019 blogging goals?

To set up a newsletter! But also to grow my blog.
