Meet the Welsh Bloggers 2019 – Chatterbox Mummy

Chatterbox Mummy with two children

This year Welsh Mummy Blogs is interviewing Welsh bloggers – Chatterbox Mummy

With so many high profile bloggers out there, we may forget some of the amazing Welsh bloggers who are closer to home.

  • Please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Laura and I live with my two children, known affectionately as Bear (5) and The Boy (2), just North of Cardiff. I am a writer – I have always loved writing (and talking) and spent more than 14 years in PR and marketing. These days I have my own freelance copywriting business,, and take on work around the children. Pretending to be in control of Bear and The Boy is my main gig, though.

My hobbies? Everyone says they enjoy socialising, so I won’t put that (although I do, because I’m a chatterbox), and loads of people enjoy the gym – I won’t put that either, because…well…I don’t. I have recently got into yoga, and although I’m not as bendy as others in the class I haven’t fallen over (yet). I enjoy skiing, reading, shopping and baking. I also enjoy gin – too much, if anything.

  • What is your blog about?

I set up my blog – – when Bear was 9 months old, as a way of combining writing and mummying. It charts the ups and downs, ins and outs of my biggest learning curve yet; being a Mum. It includes a few ranty posts, a few written from the children’s perspectives, some retrospective birthday blogs and a fair number of ridiculous accounts of the chaos that is us.

  • What/who inspired you to start a blog?

I was reading post after post about how wonderful the baby days are, and how the lack of sleep is worth every second, and it’s all so magical and people had finally found their ‘calling’ and blah blah blah. It was as if a secret code of parenthood existed whereby the candid stuff must be kept quiet, because I (and most people I spoke to) didn’t really feel like the Mary Poppins-esque parent that I saw in most of the stuff I read.

So I set up with the promise to always be honest, even on the bad days. It’s a blog of truthful ramblings and nonsense from a Mum who is most definitely making it up as she goes along. I also hope Bear and The Boy enjoy reading and reliving it all when they’re old enough to get on t’interweb.

  • What challenges have you faced whilst blogging?

I set the blog up with very few expectations – if the only person to read my posts was my Mum, then I would still have enjoyed the process of writing. It is, after all, cheaper than therapy. As it happened, people seem to like it and I’ve had really positive feedback and genuine support from people I’ve met over the years and people I don’t know from Adam (for that matter, who is Adam?)

It would be good to get the blog to the next stage – higher reader numbers, more engagement and better visibility on social media etc – but I know that that will be as much down to me as it will my audience. I need to write more – a resolution I set every year!

  • What are your 2019 blogging goals?

This year I’d like to give the blog a bit of a freshen-up; a lot has changed since I first set it up, and it could do with a bit of updating. I would also like to understand more about allowing adverts on the site and how to go about monetising it, but before that can happen I know I need to write more regularly… just like I know I should go to the gym…
